How long have you been with Open G?
I first sat in with Open G in the Spring of 2013. I started played more regularly a couple of years later and became an official a member of the band in November 2015.
What other bands did you play in?
I’ve played in Fog, the White Hots, the Trendsetters, the Tomcats, the Black Caddy Blues Band, Smokestack Lightning and the Sidney Blue Band.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Irondequoit and have lived in the city of Rochester since graduating from college.
When did you start playing music?
I started playing in college.
Who were your musical influences growing up?
I loved many of the rock bands and soul bands of the 60s and the 70s. I dug into the music that influenced those bands and discovered the blues. Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter and many of the great Chicago blues guys were – and still are – my heroes. I also loved the J Geils Band. The blues is the foundation of my playing to this day!
What was the first record you bought?
I’m not sure but I’d guess it was the Rolling Stones or the Supremes or Stevie Wonder.
What artists do you listen to today?
These days I listen to a lot of harp players, such as Jason Ricci, Adam Gussow, Sonny Boy Williamson, Stevie Wonder, Charlie McCoy, John Popper, Sugar Blue and anyone who played with Muddy Waters. I also love Neil Young, Robert Cray, BB King and lots of rockers – The Stones, Cream, Tom Petty, and J Geils Band to name few.
What makes playing music with Open G fun?
Open G is my chance to rock! It’s cool playing with a pure rock band. I get to play songs that I grew up listening.
